![]() ![]() – For a reason, above battery brand manufacturers make a point to create a battery product with a high RC count or Reserve of Capacity, which is usually in measurement by the minute. – This is an equal seg-way that ties in quite well with “cold-cranking amperage”, because while getting a marine vehicle like a boat to start-up or deep-cycle in cold weather matters, it also matters if you can “sustain” that performance when you are nearing a “low voltage”-you do not want to be stuck in the waters! The Ability Of A Battery To Reserve Capacity – Interstate SRM batteries, along with other top brands, make a point to increase the “amperage capacity” of their cells from as minimal to 550 (which is high enough) to 650 or even 850 CCA. – This problem is, even more, the case when “deep cycling” because a marine vehicle or boat needs to possess both a “starting motor charge” (a starter) and “trolling motor charge” (a deep cycle)-imagine if you do not own the bolts for that (yikes!). – Temperature is one of the primary enemies of a battery in almost every way because it reduces the amount of “floating” voltage the cell contains from the last re-charge session. – The “cold cranking” process usually falls under the label of a CCA rating, as in “cold cranking” amperage-you can think of the amperage as sort of an exchange rate in the voltage you want to use. – “Cold Cranking” is an off-shoot term that relates to how a battery can produce a currency exchange to a vehicle even under the demands of a cold (or warm) environment-adaptive to temperature variations in a way. The Ability Of A Battery To Create A “Cold Crank” – For these reasons, the structure or many brands put a premium on specifically reducing shock attacks from the outside, internal vibration resistance from the inside-and Interstate does this quite well in their SRM series. – Sometimes, the battery from the inside (internal) suffers from spilling or leaking and causes all sorts of sulfating processes to occur, making the sulfate crystallize to the point of “grease and grime”-causing internal resistance or vibration. – The “internal” stuff (problems) usually falls under the “structure” of a battery, which means good battery cell movement within the battery and a safe non-leak, non-spill of the generation material of the battery (the sulfate that is inside). ![]() – The “external” problems are usually the ones you can expect when the casing of a battery gets hit or receives a “shock” from a hard or sharp object from the outside-some brands use quite a compact and sturdy design for this very reason. – An essential manufacturing process and priority that many brands focus on can produce a product that can withstand external problems and internal problems, which can be detrimental to maritime operations. It is even more of noteworthy praise that Interstate not only performs well within the market and that it is usually within the playing field of either a top 10 or a top 5 (or even a top 3), depending on the reviews you are reading.Īlthough this review is a tad bit in bias-just a tad bit-when it comes to a report due to the focus being on these Interstate marine batteries-specifically, their “deep cycling” SRM models of 24, 27, 29.īut, not to disrespect the overall performers in the battery market, there are performance markers that Interstate shares with other top performers that you will want to consider: 1. ![]() When it comes to high-performers, there is probably no question that Interstate is consistent when it comes to playing the battery game-along with other performance players, of course. This consideration is especially true when you take into account their SRM series of marine batteries, which are great for deep-cycling functions. Among the top contenders and never a slouch within competition over market place wherein batteries are a concern, Interstate is a company you can vouch when it comes to an investment. ![]() ![]() ![]() Project complexity: Custom homes and two-story projects may drastically increase the pricing. Location: If there aren’t many ICF contractors near you, it’ll cost more for them to travel to you. Construction prices vary depending on the following factors: ICF construction costs at least $3 more per square foot than traditional wood construction but could cost upwards of $10 per square foot or more. In its expanded state, polystyrene is like Styrofoam. Some people call ICF homes "foam concrete homes" because the forms are made from polystyrene. Unless you're living in a warmer climate, many home builders use ICF for all concrete house building since it’s made from rigid foam insulation, which stays in place after pouring and insulating the walls. Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) House CostĪn ICF house costs between $240,000 and $445,000 for 2,200 square feet, or between $130 and $200 per square foot. But if you’re talking about cement as part of concrete, this costs around $130 to $200 per square foot. Cement House CostĬement is only one ingredient in concrete, so you can’t build a house with cement alone since it’s just a binder. It's often faster and requires less on-site labor. Instead of pouring on-site, panels are constructed ahead of time and shipped to your location. Building with precast panels is about 23% less expensive than working with poured concrete. Precast or prefab concrete homes cost around $120 to $200 per square foot. ![]() You may also choose to blend wood and steel for cladding. Flat poured roofs have grown in popularity as a modern home trend. While a concrete tile roof costs between $10 and $20 per square foot, pouring a flat roof starts at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, you could lower the costs based on the type of design you opt for, specifically when it comes to the roof. Like a traditional concrete home, modern concrete homes typically range from $120 to $250 per square foot. While the average house costs between $165,000 and $485,000, poured concrete costs slightly more than building with traditional wood framing. Poured Concrete House CostĪ poured concrete house costs around $120 to $180 per square foot. Cinder block walls cost more than poured concrete since stacking blocks is more labor-intensive. Sometimes referred to as "cinder blocks," this house type involves layering premade blocks and filling in gaps with mortar. ![]() Sound-dampening: It takes outside noises to a minimum compared to wood.Įnergy-efficient: You’ll save anywhere from $250–$650 per year on HVAC bills, depending on the insulation level.Ī concrete block house ranges from $180 to $250 per square foot. Is a Concrete House Less Expensive Than Wood?Ĭonstructing a concrete house usually costs 5% to 10% more than a wood-framed house. Talk to a home builder near you to compare prices and get an estimate. While concrete homes have some cost variances compared to traditional homes, they're still somewhat similar in price. Like any home construction project, many components factor into the final price. Cost to Build Concrete HousesĪ concrete house costs $160 per square foot on average to build. With the rise of wood-building material prices, concrete costs about the same as a stick-built home, only about $5 more per square foot. Inspired by the Virgin in a White Dress trope, where white represents emotional maturity, Strife incorporated the color into Lilac's design, citing Mega Man X as an example of this. The task of redesigning Lilac for Freedom Planet 2 was originally given to TheCHAMBA, then later passed to Tyson Tan, who added upon the existing design.Ī key element of Lilac's 2nd redesign would be the removal of her two-toned forehead, which is a prominent feature in Sonic character designs, as Strife believed that it was "holding her design back from being considered original". Lilac would be redesigned again for the sequel, but this time in the interest of maturing the character and separating her from her roots as a Sonic fan character. With this in mind, Strife redesigned her as a water dragon. This meant that Lilac could not remain a hedgehog due to her similarities to Sonic. During development, Strife decided to convert it from a fan game to a commercial property. This game would go on to become Freedom Planet. First Redesignĭuring late 2011, Ziyo was approached by Strife, who requested and was permitted the use of Ziyo's characters for the Sonic fangame she was developing. Note that the chemistry of your tap water can change considerably over time depending on where you live and what local conditions are like. The pH meter was in fact broken, the pH was very very high, not low at all, and I ended up bleaching some fish to death. ![]() And then I realized wait a minute, there is no process that should be making that much acid that quickly in the tank. One day it read that the pH was low, so I put a little NaOH in the tank. A sad story: I got an electronic pH meter with my tank and used it to check pH for many years. I recommend measuring pH with a chemical indicator. (The OH - combines with free hydrogen ions to form H 2O and thereby lessens the amount of free hydrogen ions very quickly.) However, see the next point. (Incidentally, Na 2CO 3 is what NaHCO 3 turns into when you bake it it's what's left in the cake after the baking soda produces carbon dioxide.) Sodium hydroxide - NaOH - will also raise pH quickly. ![]() Given what you know from my first point, you should be able to figure out why that is. Washing soda - Na 2CO 3 - will raise the pH of an overly acidic tank faster than baking soda will. No matter what you do, it tries to get back to normal. If you stretch a string, it tries to get back to normal. Essentially it acts like a spring - if you compress a spring it tries to get back to normal. It is a "buffer", meaning that it will not only bring low-pH tanks back towards neutral, but it also resists the water becoming too basic as well. Your 30 litre tank will be a lot more finicky than a bigger tank.īaking soda - NaHCO 3 - is a great addition to a tank if you're having pH problems. Small tanks are considerably harder to keep in pH balance than large tanks because small changes have a relatively larger effect. Water with a pH of 5.5 has one hydrogen per ~310 000 water molecules so it is ~31 times more acidic than pure water. Slightly basic water has ten times fewer hydrogens, so one per 100 000 000, note there are 8 zeros. Slightly acidic water has ten times as much hydrogen, so one per 1 000 000 water. Pure water has one hydrogen per 10 000 000 water molecules note there are 7 zeros. A precise definition of pH is unnecessary a good way to think of it is that pH measures the amount of free hydrogen atoms in the water. If you don't have a working understanding of pH, it is helpful to read up on it. ![]() Some additional advice that I learned the hard way after many years of owning 80 and 300 litre freshwater tanks: Is this frequency of water changing typical of a tank this size, is the acidic pH acceptable for most fish, and if not, is there anything I can do to try and keep a healthy pH for longer? Had I realized I'd need to changing the water more than once a week, I'm not sure I'd have agreed to having fish. One fish did develop what looked like a red sore spot but this has receded since we started changing the water more often. I'm not sure if this is bad for the fish or not, but since owning the fish, two have died (there were six originally), although this could have been old age. However within 2-3 days the pH has fallen to 5.5-6. The water out of the tap is about pH 7, and remains pH 7 after these are added. We treat tap water with an additive that makes it "safe for fish" and another that's supposed to retain pH balance. We've discovered that the water becomes acidic very quickly after a water change. We try and feed them only a minimal amount, as suggested by the previous owner. It's currently got 4 small (platy size) fish in it. I don't know what size the tank is precisely, but measuring water in and out suggests 25-30 liters. They had kept fish for many years without trouble, and told us that they changed the water every 2-3 weeks, and the filter cartridge every 2 months. A few months ago, we took over ownership of a small fish tank (with fish) from their existing owner. ![]() ![]() ![]() They are also slower to train, and much more expensive.
